Some people enjoy visiting their favorite salon or spa, while others make it a regular part of their lives. But now, with all salons and day spas being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic of coronavirus, this luxury is no longer available.
It does not mean that you should compromise the results your therapist worked so hard to obtain for your skin. While you cannot recreate the results of a professional in the salon, you can still take your skincare routine at home to the next step by giving yourself a facial. This will benefit your skin and your overall wellbeing.
Follow these simple nine steps to achieve healthy, glowing skin and a facial that looks like it was done in a spa.
Step 1: Preparation
Fill a bowl of hot water with face cloths and let them soak. While the fabric is still warm, place it over your face and allow it to work for 30 seconds. This will help to remove any trapped dirt or oil.
You can remove eye makeup by using two cotton pads soaked or sprayed with makeup remover. Place them over your eyes and let them work for a few minutes to remove stubborn eyeliner, mascara, or other eye makeup. Gently wipe them away, being careful not to drag delicate skin.
Step 2: Double Cleanse
Double cleansing is beneficial because it removes impurities and toxins but also primes the pores for better absorption of all subsequent products, giving you a more radiant, brighter complexion.
Choose a cleansing product to begin the double cleanse. Transformation Cleansing oil is our favorite! The oil in this product literally melts away dirt, makeup, and oils on the surface of the skin. The cleansing oil is water-soluble, so it removes all makeup and oils when you wash it off. It will ensure that your second cleanse using your regular cleanser is thorough.
For dry and sensitive skin, we recommend a non-foaming. For dry or sensitive skin, we recommend a non-foaming cream or milk cleanser and a gel or foam cleanser.
Remove excess cleanser from your face with a washcloth.
Step 3: Exfoliate
Then, exfoliate the skin gently for up to 60 seconds. Use the right product for your type of skin. Avoid microbead-containing exfoliators or scrubs if you have sensitive skin. We love the Vegetal Scrub with Natural Enzymes. This is a gentle, soft exfoliant that can be used on even the most sensitive skin. It uses natural enzymes that encourage cell turnover without irritating or scrubbing your skin. After application, the skin feels smooth and silky.
Pevonia Gentle Exfoliating cleanser is highly recommended for those with normal to sensitive skin. The unique texture of this product, which is a combination of Jojoba Beads and Saponaria with Chamomile, gently exfoliates your skin. The skin resurfaced smoother, cleaner, and softer every time.
If you have oily skin or are prone to blackheads and acne, then the Renewing Exfoliating Creme may be the right exfoliator for your needs! It mimics the dramatic effects of microdermabrasion and dermatological peeling. It is designed to give the skin a youthful glow, smooth away roughness, and reduce large pores.
You can either use a warm, dampened face cloth or rinse the exfoliator off.
Step 4 – Steam
Steam is the next step after cleansing and exfoliating. The steam helps to open the pores and make the skin more absorbent to the products that follow.
You can steam your face in several different ways. You can steam your skin in a few different ways. The easiest is to wet a facecloth and place it on the face and neck. If you have time and money, there are better ways to perform this vital step.
If you have a facial Steamer, you can use it. If not, you can heat water on the stove. You can add essential oils, like lavender, dried flowers, or lemon slices, to create a salon experience. Pour the water into a large bowl and place your face on top. Make sure you don’t touch the water. Drape a towel around your head to prevent the steam from escaping. Keep still for a few moments.
You can also add hydration to your skin without using steam by spraying a face mist. If you want to perk your senses, a facial mist that has a refreshing fragrance can help.
Step 5 – Massage
Massages are a great way to relax and rejuvenate. Although it is not the same to massage yourself, you can still enjoy the benefits. This step is crucial to increasing both blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. The result will be healthier, brighter skin.
In the salon, your therapist will use an ampoule that is tailored to your skin type and target specific concerns. You can use either a face cream or a facial oil at home. Pevonia’s Vitaminic Concentrate is my absolute favorite. The oil is a luxurious treatment that literally soaks the skin, combating dehydration and enveloping you with its mandarin fragrance.
Start the massage by dampening your hands and taking a small amount (about a pea-sized quantity) of your product. Start with the middle part of your forehead and work in circular motions towards the temples. Massage along your cheeks and nose. Massage your lips, chin, and jawline, not forgetting the neck. After 5-10 minutes, use a warm, moist face cloth to remove any excess product. If you prefer, you can also wash your face.
Step 6 – Mask
A facial is not complete without a face mask. If you are used to regular facials, they can be a good substitute. They give your skin a boost of hydration and nourishment with the ingredients that you choose.
You can apply multiple masks to different areas of your face if you wish to treat more than one issue. If you have oily skin or are prone to blemishes, a charcoal, clay, or mud mask is best. It will absorb the excess oil and unclog your pores. Try Pevonia’s Pure Skin Charcoal Masque. This purifying mask is formulated with micronized black charcoal to remove toxins and debris from the skin. It leaves the complexion looking smoother and the pores smaller.
Try Phytomer Hydrasea Thirst Relief Rehydrating Masque for dry skin. The mask feeds your skin with the ultimate nutrition so that you can feel it tightening and plumping up in an instant. The result is skin that looks and feels younger.
A soothing cream mask with nurturing ingredients will help soothe sensitive skin. Try Accept Desensitizing Masque. It soothes, heals, softens, and hydrates the complexion. It also boosts the skin’s defense system to reduce inflammation.
If you’re only concerned with skin aging, my favorite is the Pevonia Ageless Collagen Mask. It infuses skin with Vitamin A, Green Tea, and Mandarin Orange Extract, which helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines and encourages healthy cell turnover.
After removing the mask (using lukewarm tap water, gently pat the face dry), apply your favorite serum, followed by moisturizer.
Step 7 – Tone
It’s time to add toner to your skin care regimen. Toner is an important part of your routine, as it cleans and closes the pores and brightens the skin.
Apply a tone that is suitable for your skin type to the face and neck. Remove any excess mask.
Step 8 – Serum
You’ll want to add a skin serum to your routine now that your skin has become more receptive. Use the serum that is best suited to your needs. Let the peptides and antioxidants penetrate your skin and provide immediate therapy.
Step 9 – Moisturise
Finish your facial with a moisturizer. This will seal in the benefits!
This final and crucial step will rehydrate and replenish your skin’s moisture. Choose the moisturizer that is right for you, just as your therapist will. One of my favorite moisturizers for dull skin is the Hydra Continue Radiance Energy Cream. This lightweight cream, rich in vitamins, gives the skin an “invigorating” boost, turning dull skin into one that is firmer and brighter.
Try Pevonia’s Problematic Skincare cream if you have acne-prone skin. This oil-free, light-textured moisturizer contains Glycolic acid, Calendula, and Panthenol. It helps to fight blemishes and prevent pore blockage, as well as soothe, hydrate, and desensitize the skin.
If you’re just concerned with skin aging, our Marine Collagen Age Correction Cream is a must-have. This rich, deeply nourishing Marine Collagen-Squalane cream helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles while replenishing essential nutrients.
Apply your product to your face, gently massaging it in.
Apply eye cream under the eyes. My favorite product at the moment is Reset Eye Fluid. It has reduced my dark circles, puffiness, and wrinkles.
Make the most of your 10 minutes, even if it’s only for 10 minutes. This DIY facial is recommended once a week for healthy skin until you are able to visit your spa or salon to receive a full facial treatment…
